After spending many many many hours looking through various reviews, comments, websites and the like, I settled on the Navigon. Here are a few thoughts
The Good
-Maps are excellent
-Speed assist gives a speed sign in the top left hand corner and can be set-up to warn you if you get a little excited with your right foot.
-Lane assist is a god-send, espically whilst driving round London, it's get you set-up well in advance in the right lane
-Traffic is ok, bit sketchy at times but thats the service rather than the sat-nav. The implementation is excellent allows you to ignore or divert around traffic problems.
-Setting up routes is a breeze, put in your destination, it allows multiple via points which can be added using the map, a very helpful feature if you want to really dictate your route through some back roads.
-Size and Quality of the build. Is a very neat unit with a great screen, feels solid in the hand.
-The menu system isn't as intuitive as others, but after a couple of minutes playing around with all the options it's great.
The Bad
-Speaker volume on Bluetooth calls is very low.
-Can't put house numbers in with Post codes
-The charging cable is on the right of the unit, designed for left-hand-drive cars
-Really to get the newest maps, I'd buy an 8GB card, the 2GB card that comes with causes some issues
-PC software was a bit iffy, this may however be caused by an iMac running Fusion and Windows XP - should be fine on a Windows Machine
-Can't upload manual POI, for instance 3rd party Speed Camera Databases
The best bits of all.
-New Maps £15 for 2 years of free updates
-7310 comes out with lots of new features, have a look at the Navigon website. Free Upgrade for all 7210 users!!
My advice, get the Navigon, it's not a TomTom or Garmin - but that's a good thing! |
All bells and whistles!!

| I picked this sat nav as it had everything on it.Lane assist,bluetooth,3D cities, full Europe, text to speech, curve warner, voice recognition,it goes on and on!!The manual is on cd but dont let that put you off as its idiot proof to set up.Just spend an hour or so going through everything and its sorted forever. The maps are fantastic and you get 2 years updates for £15 what a bargain. If you want celebrity voices buy a Tomtom but for 1st class software all round buy this. |

| I recently purchased the Navicon 7210 and have found it excellent, it was easy to set up and I was off to my first destination within 2 minutes. KF Whitby |

| I have this Sat Nav and think it is very good. I have used it now for quite a few months and have found it very good at recalculating where you are if by chance you take a wrong turning. The screen is nice and large and if you miss the voice (because you are in traffic and need to give it you full attention) the map is good at showing you where you need to drive next. The only down side is that it is not that easy to work out how to set up the software, even if you download the guide book and read through it it is not always that straight forward to put in your destination, and then find it again if you need to go there again. If I used it every day I'm sure I would find it a lot easier to remember, but as I only use it now and again it does take a bit of remembering. |
Off to a bad start

The NAVIGON 7210 arrived promptly from Germany (quicker than some first class letters!) and was immaculate, as described. Unfortunately, the car charger cable didn't work, so I had to charge it from USB in the car and you can't use it to navigate when you're doing that. Avides Media AG, from whom I bought it, sent me a new cable without argument, which also arrived next day (and didn't require the old one back!). Then I tried to purchase the FreshMaps Update package for special price 19.95. The voucher CODE to enable this didn't work. NAVIGON have a U.K. helpline, so I rang them. Although helpful, they claimed that there were a LOT of code failures! With persistence, many frustrating interactions with "press one for this, two for that", and about £15 in cost of calls, I eventually got the code, just as I was about to return the thing under warranty; you have two weeks to do this, no reason necessary. It now works, but the mapping leaves much to be desired with recent road changes not updated, and no English male voice with TTS! I don't want to drive around with a Woman telling me where to go!! Its not slick like their website, and its not better than the Garmin Nuvi. The screen is soft and sometimes requires a second touch, and the hazard warning just says "BEWARE". Altogether not the best Nav unit I've used, but it is small, light, . . . . and has a nice little bag.
