| I purchased this Sat Nav as recommended in WHICH? and have been delighted with its accuracy ease of use and completely reliable route recalculation and traffic jam avoidance capacity. It misses any micro climate feature of alerting you to iced roads etc so travelling on minor roads with below zero is your loookout! For a modest expense you have an unmatchable and useful all Europe (UK included)sat nav. Voice commands in English are not fool proof as it's a feature of our language that Brent Knoll and Bracknell sound the same! So dont be surprised it Exeter is misheard... so stick to the clear graphic input instead. Their main web site is also good though updates are pricey. |

Recently purchased this unit as an alternative to tom tom but it appears they need to perform more R&D on the product. Heres the lowdown:
Pros
+ Pretty fast at calculating routes
+ Good graphics
+ lane direction tool very good
+ Free traffic and speed cameras
+ POI's included
+ own stylus included
Cons
- product cannot be updated by their own software - confirmed by navigon
- doesnt recognise some post codes and when you try to update it wont update either
- instructions are not given well in advance but just in time which is really unhelpful
- keeps crashing required many hours at the computer trying to rectify the problems
- product does not suggest alternatives to planned routes
Conclusion
I wont be updating anything just yet as I had high hopes for this product only to be let down. All sat navs out there contain flaws, my advice to anyone wishing to procure such items is to read as many reviews as possible and test the unit yourself and then and only then decide what you want. |
Unstable, unusable, unworkable!

Oh I did so much want to like this. Navigon are a relatively small German company, still battling against TomTom and Garmin. But this product won't cut the mustard. It looks beautiful - all brushed stainless steel and a 4.8" screen. But I tried - and failed - to get it to synch with FreshMaps on 3 separate systems (Vista Home Premium, XP and Vista Business). I tried everything, even contacting Navigon support who said they thought it was faulty (but didn't seem remotely surprised). They answer the phone quickly, but had little interest in solving the problem. Their support e-mail back to me simply wished me more luck with my next Sat-Nav (!)
The Bluetooth crashed 3 times in my 1hr of ownership - each time I tried to connact (I tried a Samsung G600, an I-Phone 3G and an LG Prada Phone - all crashed). The wonderful 3D contour maps have no street names on them at all(like NavMan software of 5 years ago) and the TMC refused to receive any information at all (though my TomTom, Garmin and Sony (made by Navigon) all did fine. I should add (in response to the comment below) that you can get names on the 3D maps, but emphatically NOT on the glorious-looking 3D contour maps that Navigon use to promote this unit.
But it looks sooooo good and seemed so well-made. Ahh well - back to TomTom and Garmin for me. My recommendation is to try before you buy - see whether it works for you. See also whether you can live with the poor Navigon Fresh updater. |
Not good at all

Dear customers
I wish to allert you that this product is not optimally working. I've used it but all connections are extremely slow. E.g. the bluetooth had to connect each time with my phone, taking minutes to set it up. The connection with the radio was not good as there was a constant noise from it. The traffic information didn't work at all. The phone was crashing from the very first moment. It's a pity that customers have to pay for the additional extras that do not work properly. I bought it because I thought that paying for something expensive it would be also a very good tool. It seems that it should be much cheaper. Luckily, I returned it back and got refund. I don't think it was the specific problematic, but in general the software is not that good. If you don't believe me just try it, and I wish you good luck! |

GPS Systems, Navigon
