I had bought a Navigon satnav some years ago and found it very useful both in the UK and on the Continent, so was inclined to seriously consider Navigon again. I did quite a bit of research on other makes, Tom Tom seems to be very popular, but experiancing a friends, found the commands to be just that COMMANDS!! The Navigon has no choice of voice, but a very pleasing and quite 'posh' voice gives instructions very clearly and precisely.

As with all satnavs, you do have to glance briefly at the screen to avoid confusion at some junctions, but I find the Lane Instructions on the screen at motorway junctions extremely useful. The 7110 has maps of the whole of Europe (East & West) although it would appear to be somewhat basic the further East you travel.

When you buy the Navigon you can download the 'latest maps' from the internet up to 30 days after purchase. I had two problems, I left my 7110 300 miles away - by mistake - before I had done the download, so I emailed Navigon direct and they emailed me back to say that the download woud be available for 3 months so I could get my 7110 back - brilliant!

The other problem was that the new maps were bigger that the 2gb SD card originally supplied, but I bought a 4gb one and after a few 'compatibility' issues completed the download sucessfully.

Of course there are some problems - it does not recognise some new roads, one in Lichfield picks it up as soon as you defy the instructions, but one in Rugeley keep asking you to turn off or do a u turn right up to the end even though the new road is visible on the screen. Another small but annoying problem is that the OS is liable to Crash - it is Windows CE and generally much faster that the old Navigon system. I just hope they will offer free upgrades as these become available.

I would certainly recomend this to anyone who loves to travel throughout Europe using the integrated maps.
Excellent... mostly

Very good-looking widescreen unit with piano-black surround. Mapping is very comprehensive in UK at least, though updates are pricey. Display extremely clear, change from day/night settings and setting-up blockages en route are simple to operate. The 'real-life' view of motorway junctions is useful with representations of the actual road signs, and it's a hoot too - it shows a sunny day on daytime setting and a dark sky with moon at night. Background was even pitch-black for a junction inside a tunnel.
Hands-free phoning function is useful but not the clearest for speech at either end, and I have never found how to adjust the volume.
After a couple of years' nearly daily use the mount became loose. It can be re-tightened in moments by popping-out the clip-on label at the front and using an Allen key. Dead easy; it just took me a few hours to discover...
Battery life not bad and was adequate for 1/2-day excursions on foot around Amsterdam.
I like this unit a lot and am reluctant to mark it less than **** despite the fact that it freezes or crashes too often - maybe between 2% and 5% of journeys. At least it led me to discover that Navigon Customer Service are *****
Get a Garmin!

I bought one of these in April, to replace a Garmin Nuvi 660 which was stolen from my car. Impressed by the looks and features, I thought the Navigon would be a good buy. Wrong.

Poor user interface, difficult to use (it's not intuitive at all, and the touchscreen is rubbish so you have to tap repeatedly to get what you want)

Dashboard mount fell apart, TMC doesn't work, battery only lasts an hour, maps are well out of date, and bluetooth has problems with phone syncing.

Another thing - the routing engine is bizarre - it often takes you on convoluted routes so that journeys take much longer than they should (and I do have all the correct route settings in place).

The Garmin, in contrast, didn't have many fancy features, and the display wasn't as pretty. However, it got me from A to B with no bother at all, was easy to use, worked with my phone flawlessly and worked with traffic management. Came with 2 years worth of free map updates too - I wish I'd just got another Garmin.

Don't waste your money on Navigon - it may look nice but to be honest, I sometimes think I'd be better off with a paper road map!
Look at another brand name

Everything seems awesome from the outside.

But the software on this unit renders it almost useless. It is possible to use the unit for many minutes, but then it suddenly freezes on you. Then you have to reset the unit in order to attempt another go. You will be lucky to navigate from A to B without the unit freezing.

It comes with the operating system Windows CE 5.0
It comes with decent map coverage, but lacks coverage of Malta.

This could have been a great product if the engineers had just got it right. There is no patch currently that removes the freeze up habits for this unit, up till now.

I have been in touch with support, and they are willing to ship it to Würzburg in Germany, but that is a hazzle because of customs declaring and some days of processing in Würzburg.
